4. Privacy and Data Policy

4.1 Our Commitment to Privacy

OG.im is committed to protecting user privacy and operates on principles of data minimization. We do not:

- Sell, trade, or monetize user data
- Perform behavioral tracking or analytics
- Share data with advertisers or third parties for marketing
- Read your messages (end-to-end encrypted messages are unreadable by us)

4.2 Data We Collect

To provide XMPP services, we may temporarily process:

- Account Information: Username and hashed password
- Connection Data: IP addresses and connection timestamps are only stored in-flight for the application to work, but not stored persistently
- Message Metadata: Message routing information (sender, recipient, timestamp)
- Stored Messages: Messages stored via MAM (Message Archive Management) for 30 days
- File Uploads: Files stored for 7 days with a 20 MB size limit

4.3 Data Retention

- Connection data is only stored in-flight and not retained persistently
- Archived messages (MAM) are automatically deleted after 30 days
- Uploaded files are automatically deleted after 7 days
- Inactive accounts may be deleted after prolonged inactivity

4.4 Your Privacy Rights

You have the right to:

- Delete your account and associated data at any time (XEP-0077)
- Use end-to-end encryption (OMEMO, OpenPGP) to protect message content
- Request information about data we hold about your account
- Register without providing an email address

Encryption: We strongly recommend using OMEMO or OpenPGP encryption for all sensitive communications. When properly implemented, end-to-end encryption ensures that message content cannot be read by the server operator, internet service providers, or third parties.

5. Federation and Third-Party Servers

XMPP is a federated protocol. When you communicate with users on other XMPP servers:

- Messages are transmitted to and processed by the recipient's server
- Each server has its own privacy policies and terms
- We have no control over third-party server policies or practices
- End-to-end encryption protects message content across servers

6. Legal Compliance and Law Enforcement

6.1 Jurisdiction

This service is operated from Denmark and is subject to Danish law. We will comply with valid legal requests from competent authorities under Danish jurisdiction.

6.2 Data Requests

In the event of a valid legal request:

- We can only provide data that we actually possess
- End-to-end encrypted message content cannot be decrypted by us
- We will challenge overly broad or inappropriate requests when possible
- We will notify affected users unless legally prohibited from doing so

7. Content and User Responsibility

Users are solely responsible for the content they transmit through OG.im. We do not:

- Monitor or review message content
- Pre-screen communications
- Endorse any content transmitted by users

However, we will take action against accounts found to be engaging in prohibited activities when brought to our attention.
